Although Manchester City has a commanding lead over Bayern Munich in their quarterfinal match, Thomas Tuchel was not interested in talk of "a miracle."
Thomas Tuchel has urged Bayern Munich to find the "spark" needed to give them hope of a miraculous comeback against Manchester City in the Champions League.
Bayern suffered a 3-0 loss against City in the first leg of their quarterfinal match, giving Tuchel's team a mountain to climb on Wednesday.
Despite Bayern's coach's assertions that his team played well, City were dominant at the Etihad Stadium and defeated Bayern.
Given that only four clubs have ever come back from a three-goal deficit in a two-legged Champions League quarterfinal match, there is justifiable debate in the German media about the necessity for "a miracle."
Yet Tuchel is aware that for Bayern to stand a chance, they will need to go out and seize the initiative, as well as the crowd's focus at the Allianz Arena.
We are unable to perform a miracle. So the strategy is obviously different," he remarked. "Everyone believes at 1-1. The key to 3-0 is establishing a reasonable level.
"Our Saturday match, a 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim, most definitely had nothing to do with that.
"We are confident that we can win both halves. Little moments happen in football because everything is possible. Finding and practicing faith are key.
"But, having faith does not equate to having dreams. It is up to us to make sure the spark is lit and that we carry the crowd with us."
Tuchel recognized that against Hoffenheim, "spark" was lacking, making their task against a City squad in excellent form on a 10-match losing streak more challenging.
Tuchel called the match "an enormous test" and said that Bayern are "missing a bit right now" compared to City, who have "been in peak form for weeks."
Following the first leg's events, two people are the center of attention.
Leroy Sane and Sadio Mane got into a fight in the dressing room at the Etihad Stadium, leading to Mane's suspension for the Hoffenheim match and a fine. However, Tuchel said Mane will be back in the squad.
