Eight kids from the RisingSun Montessori School at Dome in Accra will represent Ghana at the Primary Middle School Division of the 2019 VEX Worlds Global Robotics Competition Championship in Dallas, Texas, USA, from April 25 to May 4.

Oppong Kyekyeku Edomgbole, Nkunim Kweku Akuamoah, Michelle Ohemaa Nuerkie Nuertey, Makayla Miravis Menyah, Francis Kofi Amoako, Yaw Omari Dankwah, Papa Yaw Kyei Peprah, and Nathaniel Roy Bassaw are the students who make up the BountiBot-GH10 team.

The VEX Worlds Robotics Competition is the world's biggest educational robotics and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) competition that develops skills and aids students in developing a sense of self as STEM learners.

Moreover, it provides students with an engaging and genuine introduction to important soft skills like cooperation, communication, and time management.

Commendation

Patrick Acheampong, the director of RisingSun Montessori School, praised the team for a job well done while encouraging parents to let their kids pursue their dreams, emphasizing that "as parents, let's become engaged."

Seth Ogoe Ayim, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bountiful Technologies Company Limited, one of VEX Robotics' partners, said it was more crucial than ever for young people to have the knowledge and abilities to solve issues and acquire and analyze data in order to draw conclusions.

He added that another objective of their programs was to match the talents of students with what colleges and companies were looking for.

According to Mr. Ayim, critical thinking, teamwork, tenacity, communication, inclusivity, and learning from failure via iteration are necessary to promote project-based learning.

Winning

Mr. Ayim was certain that the pupils would represent Ghana honorably during the competition.

In order to bring the overall championship trophy and medals to Ghana, he added, Ghanaian children had to fight against teams from various nations across the world. "Ghanaian kids have worked tirelessly with their coaches, parents, and school instructors during competition seasons," he said.

He described how the RisingSun Montessori School was chosen as a finalist in Ghana's annual STEM robotics competition, which was sponsored in conjunction with the STEM Educational Foundation, a local partner of VEX Robotics and the REC Foundation.

He remarked that the middle school team from Ghana and Africa was the first to earn a spot in the competition.
