Construction of the destroyed La General Hospital is about to start, according to Dr. Nsiah Asare, a Presidential Adviser on Health.
After demonstrations by residents of the La neighborhood and nearby regions over the halted project, the disclosure was made on Citi FM. In response to the residents' worries, Dr. Asare urged them to be patient while the government made improvements to the hospital and assured them that they would soon observe change.
Dr. Asare gave an explanation for the delay, stating that although facilities were supposed to be ready to start the project, they never appeared. The Ministry of Health and the Office of the Chief of Staff have been tasked by the President to speed up the procedure and make sure that progress is made as soon as is practical.
Dr. Asare continued by saying that the hospital was destroyed because of structural flaws that, at the time, presented a risk to patients and residents. "We chose to demolish it and hoped that it would have been built since it was an unsafe structure at the time with plenty of cracks, and it was unwise to put patients who cannot flee in case of a tragedy at risk."
The project's schedule, according to Dr. Asare, will shortly include information on the start date of construction and the activities that will take place there.
We chose to dismantle it and hoped that it would have been constructed because, in his words, "it was a dangerous structure with a lot of cracks at the time, and it was unsafe to put patients who cannot run in case of a tragedy at risk."
"A roadmap will be published shortly," the statement reads. "At the moment, a lot of interaction is underway, and the details of when the project will start and what we are going to accomplish there will be disclosed soon."
As the hospital's administration discovered serious structural issues in 2015, the La General Hospital was destroyed in 2019. On August 10, 2020, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo cut the sod to officially start building on the La General Hospital Renovation Project.
