In a recent public address, the General Secretary of the opposition NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, emphasized that an increasing feeling of despondency amongst Ghanaians requires a collective effort. This growing disillusionment within this country, he reiterated, was the responsibility of all, from political leaders down to civil society and the general populace.

Addressing party supporters during a regional meeting, Asiedu Nketia pointed to the frustration of the citizenry due to the current economic difficulties and lack of hope in the resolution of vital national concerns: "The increasing despondency is a direct result of the failure of leadership to provide solutions to the many challenges facing the people of Ghana," he said. He blamed this ever-rising mood of despair on the soaring cost of living, inflation, and joblessness.

Asiedu Nketia urged the government and opposition parties to eschew political rhetoric and come together to offer solutions to the economic predicaments facing the nation. He said mere criticism against the government was not enough without serious alternatives that could afford immediate relief to the people.

"The blame games must cease. We have to unite as one people in contributing towards solutions that would uplift the lives of Ghanaians," he said. He further indicated the need for increased cooperation between government and the private sector, along with civil society organisations, to achieve national cohesion for which opportunities for growth and development could be created.

While criticizing the way the government was running the economy, Asiedu Nketia indicated that the NDC was committed to supporting policies that would favour the welfare of ordinary Ghanaians. He also declared that the party would continue to engage in a crusade for a government that listens to the plight of its people and takes appropriate measures to respond to their needs effectively.

Concluding, Asiedu Nketia urged Ghanaians to continue to hope but be active in trying to find a solution to the "Halting the increasing despondency is not just the responsibility of one person or one party. It is a collective responsibility for all of us," he said.
