Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the 2020 running mate of former President John Dramani Mahama, is adamant that a global citizen must have a thorough awareness of global concerns in order to be able to negotiate the complexity of a world that is changing quickly and is increasingly linked.
She listed a number of these problems, including corruption and nepotism, which deny residents the peace they need to live in an egalitarian society, as well as climate change, human rights abuses, the causes of poverty, and power abuse.
Sensitive
It follows that such a person must be culturally aware and "empathetic to respect the diversity of human experiences, diverse cultures, beliefs, and traditions," she added.
In order to offer a lecture on "Future Global Citizens: Navigating a Changing World," Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyemang made the statement while serving as the Special Guest of Honor at Cyprus International University, Greece.
Global citizens are said to be open-minded, socially conscious, and dedicated to making positive contributions to both their local and global communities, according to the former minister of education and first female vice chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
Fervid
She praised the university exchange and study abroad programs in all of their various incarnations, saying that participants were "fervent about concerns of social justice, sustainability, and parity in all aspects of life."
These, according to her, were efficient methods to introduce pupils to other perspectives and help them appreciate how varied the world is.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang praised Cyprus International University for inviting her as the guest of honor and in particular for "keeping focused on their aim of developing individual brains to operate successfully in the fast-growing and dynamic globe."
She met with members of the faculty, staff, and students at the institution as well as the newly formed women's unit and the Ghanaian and African Student Associations during her visit.
Since then, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang has visited Ghana again.
