Erling Haaland's Man City exit plan as his transfer release clause changes
Though Erling Haaland appears very happy at Manchester City at the moment, there has been suggestions that the Norwegian sensation wouldn't stay at the Etihad for a particularly long time
Manchester City have cancelled a release clause that was previously included into Erling Haaland's contract due to his outstanding season in front of goal during his rookie season in the Premier League.
This recent update, however, implies that the plans laid out by the striker's father Alf-Inge a few years back will have to be adjusted. The contract Haaland signed when he joined City last summer had a £150 million release clause, but 32 Premier League goals later, Pep Guardiola's men want to keep the Norwegian at the Etihad for as long as possible.
The release clause was supposed to be related to Guardiola's future, but with the manager extending his contract until 2025, the Etihad faithful can expect to see Haaland for at least another two years.
According to The Athletic, City officials are working on a completely new contract for the former Borussia Dortmund wonder. If Haaland signs the agreement, it would mean that his father's plan for him would not be followed.
While the striker has rarely discussed his future in public, Alf-Inge has done so several times.
Haaland's father earlier stated in the documentary 'Haaland: The Big Decision': "I think Erling wants to prove his abilities in all leagues." Then he can only stay at Manchester City for three or four years.
"He could be in Germany for two and a half years, England for two and a half years, and then Spain, Italy, and France, right?"
"On our list, I think City is the best team," he continued. "[Bayern] Munich is ranked second. Real Madrid is ranked third, and Paris Saint-Germain is ranked fourth. Other than City, we have some really good English teams. Chelsea and Liverpool. There's also Barcelona. They're almost in the same row."
Haaland is said to be quite pleased at City and open to the prospect of a new contract, though the club will also want to ensure his whole concentration remains on exclusively on-field things.
