GOVERNMENT CRITICIZED FOR CALLING MONDAY A "SALAH" HOLIDAY DESPITE UNCERTAIN EID DATE

The administration has come under fire for declaring a vacation in observance of Eid ul-Fitr (Salah), even though the exact date of the Muslim festival is unknown.


Depending on when the new crescent will be seen, presenter Umaru Sanda predicts that the date for the forthcoming Salah will be announced on Thursday night.



In response to the government declaring Monday, April 24, a holiday since the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration will be on Saturday, April 22, Sanda tweeted on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, that the holiday could either fall on Friday, April 21, or Saturday.


No Muslim knows with certainty when Eid ul Fitr will occur! But the Interior Minister of Ghana has already said that it will take place on Saturday. Not that I blame him. He must officially declare a holiday at least two days in advance, which he does after consulting with others.


Muslims are aware that, depending on whether we see the new crescent on Thursday night, Eid may fall on either Friday or Saturday.


Because of the aforementioned, if Eid happens on a Friday, which is conceivable, Muslim employees cannot celebrate because it is not a holiday. He stated, "Muslims need two days off for Eid."


Previously, the government declared Monday, April 24, 2023, a statutory public holiday to commemorate the Eid ul-Fitr festival, according to a statement released by Interior Minister Ambrose Dery.


The declaration states that the celebration of Eid will take place on April 22, 2023, on a Saturday. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a consequence, by A public holiday is being held nationwide on Monday, April 24, according to an Executive Instrument (EI).


The statement read, "However, given that April 22, 2023, falls on a Saturday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has by Executive Instrument (E.I), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, (Act 601), declared Monday, April 24, 2023, as an additional Public Holiday,"


It further said that the declared holiday should be honored as such across the nation.
