Christian Eriksen admits Man United were not 'strong enough' in 3-0 defeat to Sevilla

Christian Eriksen has

admitted that

Manchester United

'made more mistakes'

than they usually do

during their 3-0 defeat

to Sevilla on Thursday.

The Red Devils crashed

out of the Europa

League in the quarter-

finals after goals from

Youssef En-Nesyri

and Loic Badé wrapped

up the win for the

Spanish side.

It comes as a big blow

to United, who had

been chasing a

potential European

trophy in ten Hag's first

year in charge of the

club.

Their next match will

see them continue the

push for a trophy,

however, as they take

on Brighton in the FA

Cup semi-finals on

Sunday afternoon.

And Danish midfielder

Eriksen insists that

United are fully

'focusing' on that

match after suffering

their European

elimination on

Thursday.

Speaking to BT Sport

after the match, and

reflecting on the result,

Eriksen said: 'A lot of

things happened. We

didn't really give them a

game from the first

minute and we gave

them a lot of

opportunities to finish

us off.

'We lost a bit of our

coolness, we made

more mistakes than we

do usually and the

whole team could not

catch up with mistakes

our team-mates

made.   'If you give

away goals like we did,

you lose, it's nothing to

do with the

atmosphere. Our own

game was not strong

enough. It's football,

sometimes you have

good days, sometimes

you have bad days and

it was a bad day. Luckily

we have a game in four

days.'

United will be back in

action when they travel

to Wembley in order to

take on Roberto De

Zerbi's Seagulls in the

final four of the FA Cup

on Sunday.

The Red Devils will be

hoping they can win a

double in ten Hag's first

year in charge,

following their Carabao

Cup success earlier in

the year.

'Every football player

makes mistakes, they

punished us straight

away. It's how we

bounce back and

today we were not

strong enough to

bounce back from the

mistakes,' Eriksen

continued.

'The mentality has to

change, we know it will

be a completely

different opponent and

different style so from

tomorrow we will be

focusing on Brighton.':

Elsewhere on the night,

United legend Paul

Scholes criticised the

Red Devils for a

'disgraceful'

performance in their

Europa League quarter

final exit.

David de Gea was at

fault for all three of the

goals, while the spine

lacked authority in the

absence of Bruno

Fernandes, Raphael

Varane and Lisandro

Martinez.

Scholes felt it was a

disappointing night for

his former side, as he

told BT Sport: 'Look it's a

difficult night. They

didn't handle the

aggression from Sevilla

tonight.

'When you come to

these places you

expect to take

examples from your

most experienced

players. Right from the

very first minute de Gea

kicks the ball out and

then it went downhill

from there.
