Liverpool sent alarming transfer warning by icon as Jude Bellingham alternative lined up
Jamie Carragher has warned former club Liverpool that one of their summer targets has already seen their asking price go up.
Barella scored in each of Inter Milan's victories over Benfica in the quarterfinals. The most goals he has ever scored in a season are now eight, and they were scored in all competitions.
The 26-year-old has been linked to a transfer to Liverpool. This summer, the Reds want to completely revamp their midfield, and Barella is one player they are considering.
Liverpool had long-term interest in Jude Bellingham, but the Reds have since lost interest in him in order to avoid using up the majority of their summer transfer budget on just one player. Carragher has nevertheless cautioned Jurgen Klopp that the price of Barella will now be higher than he had anticipated.
When considering how clubs set up these days, Carragher stated last month: "I think he's probably one of the greatest in Europe playing in that tucked-in, right-sided central midfield position. You see Inter play with a back three with five in midfield, or a 4-3-3. He scores goals from the box to the box.We witnessed his exceptional performance in helping his nation win the European Championships. He is a guy who can get in and open things up, but the inside right position in football is now crucial. Can you make runs from there? He advances on the striker by making runs. And he poses a serious goal threat.Goals from midfield are essential for any elite squad. It will actually be interesting if he actually stays at Inter but you think one day would he go the Premier League or one of the Spanish giants because I certainly think he has the ability to do so."
