Laboratory personnel will march in the May Day parade

After becoming an autonomous trade union and representing professional medical laboratory scientists all throughout the nation, the Medical Laboratory Professional Workers' Union (MELPWU) will participate in the 2023 May Day festivities in Ghana for the first time.

After obtaining a Collective Bargaining Certificate from the Chief Labour Officer in July of last year, the MELPWU was invited to participate in organized labor's annual May Day celebration. This was a huge accomplishment for the union.

As a result, the union is given the authority to speak for and negotiate pay with employers on behalf of all of its members across the nation.

Parade

"The MELPWU members who split from the Health Services Workers Union would participate in the national workers' parade in Bolgatanga and the regional parades across the nation," a statement said.

a statement issued by Cephas Kofi Akortor, the MELPWU's general secretary, read.

According to the statement, the union's involvement in the festivities was intended to highlight the crucial contribution that medical laboratory workers make to the development of the nation's healthcare system.

The statement read, "The role of medical laboratory professionals is essential to healthcare, and we are proud to be recognized as a key member of the nation's healthcare team."

Activities

The statement said that as part of its celebration-related activities, MELPWU will arrange fun games, host free fasting glucose tests for members and attendees, give out prizes to outstanding members, and hold a jamboree following the march.

Every year on May 1, there is a celebration known as May Day.

It is a day set aside to honor the contributions that employees have made to the growth of the nation and to promote improved working conditions and worker welfare.

This year's May Day festivities will be held under the subject "Protecting Incomes and Pensions in an Era of Economic Crisis: Our Responsibility."
