Did you know in 1970, Korea ordered 1,000 Volvo cars from Sweden? In 1970, the North Korean government ordered 1,000 Volvo cars to be delivered to the country. The cars were shipped and delivered but North Korea ignored the invoice she refused to pay. The cost of one Volvo at the time was estimated to be $70,000, this $70 million in total for the 1,000 cars. All efforts from Volvo to retrieve their money and cars proved futile making the largest car theft in the world.
The conversation had resurfaced online and users are sharing their opinions, others argued that $70,000 per Volvo car in the ’70s was too expensive. A few of the comments by users are highlighted below;

“They should have sent Dominic Toretto to deliver
the cars. Family is everything”.
@robbyvcrypto
“Why is no one asking why Volvo was charging
USD 70,000 per car in 1970?? The dollar has had
an average inflation rate of 3.96% per year between
1970 and 2022, producing a cumulative price
increase of 654.27%... So that's roughly 450K
USD / car in today's dollars. I'm not sure those #s
can be right, but if that's what the invoice was it
makes sense it was not paid”.
@jrouldz
“Why would a Volvo in 1970 cost 70,000? Doesn't add up”.
@jnfbbaNowadays having a car in North Korea is still a
sign of wealth and entitlement”.

“So what you are saying is that in 1970 a Volvo Cost
70,000? The math ain't matching bro!”.
@whitesundesert
“You'd have hoped this would have taught the
Swedes the valuable lesson that not everyone in
the world is like Swedes, but alas they appear to
be stubborn in that regard”.
North Korea is considered one of the most powerful countries in the world, with over 1.3 million active personnel, has the fourth largest military in the world. About five percent of the population are in the military with over 600,000 in reserves. The Constitution of the country requires military service from all citizens.
