The National Democratic Congress (NDC) resumed accepting nominations in February of this year in 14 of the 27 constituencies that the party had previously placed on hold.

According to Daniel Amartey Mensah, the NDC's interim director of elections, nominations for the 14 impacted constituencies began on Thursday, April 20, 2023, and ended on Monday, April 24, 2023.

On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, applicants would be subject to screening, following which there would be opportunities for appeals, according to him.

Constituencies

Ten of the 14 constituencies where nominations are being accepted are in the Ashanti Region, with two each in the Greater Accra and Eastern regions, according to Mr. Amartey.

The constituencies are Ayawaso Central and Amasaman in Greater Accra, Afram Plains South and Ayensuano in the Eastern Region, Offinso North, Ahafo Ano North, Sekyere Afram Plains, Ahafo Ano South, Bosome Freho, Asante Akim Central, Manso Adubia, Manhyia South, Subin, and Fomena in the Ashanti Region.

Reasons

Regional chairmen of the 14 concerned seats where nominations have been opened were asked by the party in a letter to put the necessary safeguards in place to guarantee that the primary takes place on May 13, 2023, as scheduled.

Therefore, the letter said, "the opening of nominations and other consequential activities should be expedited to meet the May 13, 2023 deadline."

Following a number of meetings and background research, the 14 constituencies opened for nominations with the understanding that the issues that had previously plagued several of them had been mostly handled.

The party reaffirmed that it was putting in great effort to make sure that the second half of the year saw the resolution of all outstanding constituencies.

Recall

With the start of nominations on February 22 and ending on February 24, the NDC commenced the last round of its internal elections to choose a presidential and parliamentary candidate for the general election of 2024.

To allow for more consultations with significant stakeholders, the party stated that nominations in 27 seats for the parliamentary primary had been suspended to make sure that the results of the primaries there would have an effect on how well the party performed in those regions.
