Karim Benzema has has now acceoted to leave Real Madrid following Cristiano Ronaldo's approach.
Karim Benzema is set to sign a new one-year contract with Real Madrid with a future exit date after turning down the chance to join Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia this year.
Karim Benzema is due to leave Real Madrid in the summer of 2024 after signing a new one-year contract.
The striker recently turned down a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia to stay in Europe. His former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo used a similar technique in January to negotiate a move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, who earns around £173m a year.
Benzema remains a key player for the Spanish giants and was named last year's Ballon d'Or winner, capping off an individual year of excellence. His outstanding performances have helped Real Madrid succeed locally and in Europe.
The Frenchman scored 44 goals for Real Madrid across all competitions, including 15 in their Champions League run. This includes hat-tricks against PSG and Chelsea in the knockout stages, as well as three goals over two legs against Manchester City in the semi-final.
Benzema, 35, has scored 25 goals and counting this season, once again spearheading Carlo Ancelotti's attack. They appear to be losing their La Liga title, yet they are in the Copa del Rey final and the Champions League last four for the 11th time in 13 seasons.
Benzema recently retired from international duty with France and will be out of contract in Madrid this summer. However, according to Diario AS, Benzema has already indicated to the club his intention to stay for another 12 months following this summer.
That would bring the veteran up to the summer of 2024, when Endrick, a Brazilian adolescent sensation, is due to arrive in Madrid from Palmeiras. Benzema may decide to leave at this point, though there are plans for him to take on a non-playing position at the club if he does decide to retire.
Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes are frequently used in wide offensive positions, where Marcos Asensio might excel. However, Madrid's assaults continue to focus around Benzema, and there is no successor in the squad, which aided their pursuit of adolescent sensation Endrick.
Benzema has 349 goals in 14 seasons in Madrid, numbers that have increased after Ronaldo's departure in 2018. Benzema was mostly a supporting player to the Portuguese superstar throughout their nine years together, but has subsequently taken center stage, scoring 157 goals in five seasons.
