Fans have taken to social media to rave about Riyad Mahrez's second goal as Manchester City ran out 3-0 winners over Sheffield United to book their place in this year's FA Cup Final.
The Algerian notched all three goals in City's win, becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in an FA Cup semi-final since Manchester United's Alex Dawson against Bolton in 1958.
Mahrez opened the scoring just before half time by converting from the penalty spot after Daniel Jebbison was penalised for a foul on Bernardo Silva, and wrapped up the win on the 66th minute mark when he slotted home Jack Grealish's cross.
However, it was the City forward's second goal they had fans waxing lyrical about on Twitter, as Mahrez picked up the ball just inside the opponent's half and then ran at the Blades defence, before calmly passing the ball into the net.
'Wow Mahrez that’s an incredible run and goal! Wow!' one user posted in a tweet that perfectly summed up a goal that deserved a double 'WOW'. While another simply stated 'Mahrez what a run' at seeing the City star's goal.
Another post couldn't believe the space that was given to Mahrez and tweeted 'Can’t just be letting someone run through the defence like that, especially a player of Mahrez’s quality!'
Others praised the work of Erling Haaland of creating the room for his teammate by saying 'See how Haaland’s run opened up space for Mahrez. That man is scary.' While another thought the centre backs were so afraid of the Norweigon that they forgot about the Algerian star.
They said: 'The Sheffield CBs got scared of Haaland and Alvarez so they gave Mahrez a free run.'
Mahrez's Wembley wonder and all round performance also led calls for the 32-year-old to start in Man City's title showdown with Arsenal on Wednesday.
After the Gunners dropped another two points in their 3-3 draw with Southampton on Friday night, City can take control of the title race if they beat Mikel Arteta's team, and some fans believe they'll have a better chance with Mahrez in the team.
'What a run from Mahrez. Arsenal aren't ready' said one delighted City fan, while another agreed with with the sentiment by tweeting 'That’s a great run from Mahrez. He wants that start on Wednesday.'
Manchester City will now play either Brighton or Manchester United in this year's FA Cup Final, who meet in tomorrow's other semi-final.
A possible date with rivals United would be the first time the two Manchester clubs have ever met in the final of England's oldest cup competition.
As well as an FA Cup Final and Wednesday's title decider, City also have a Champions League semi-final on the horizon with Real Madrid as they chase an historic treble.
