Former Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin insists his former Southampton team-mate Sadio Mane was right to refuse a move to Old Trafford to join Liverpool.
Mane has warned the Premier League after two impressive years with The Saints between 2014 and 2016.
Of course, the Senegal international continues to establish himself as one of the best players in world football, working on the side of Liverpool.
During his time at Anfield, Mane scored 120 goals in 269 appearances and played a key role in Jurgen Klopp's side's fortunes as they won every major trophy possible.
However, things could have been very different had Schneiderlin been successful. The former Southampton and United midfielder admits he tried to convince Mane to sign for United.
Schneiderlin on the mane
Schneiderlin, who spent two years at United after moving from The Saints in 2015, revealed that former boss Louis van Gaal wanted him to convince Mane to move to the Red Devils.
However, despite the Frenchman's best efforts, Mane opted to stay at United for another year, before moving to Liverpool for around £30m.
Speaking on Player Pod, Schneiderlin said:
“From day one, you could tell he had something in him.
“It took him a little while, a few months, to really get going. And as soon as he started scoring, the game was over. It's great.
"I remember Louis van Gaal asking me if he would come to Man United. I did my best to convince him to come.
However, Schneiderlin admits Mane made the right decision to choose Liverpool.
The midfielder continued:
“He wants to stay another year and go to Liverpool. Advertisement
"I think his choice was unbelievable. He went to Liverpool, a team that was simply impregnable at the time.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has joked that Manchester United need not be afraid Manchester City are still in the hunt for the treble this season.
Manchester United won the treble in 1999, winning the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup. City have the opportunity to do the same this season.
Guardiola says:
"They don't need to be afraid, we are neighbors!" Neighbors are always good to each other.
"No, I said yesterday that we are far from reaching a situation like this - this culmination and this discussion. Okay, for a good time, that's fine. Reality is here. I've said it many times, the most impressive thing I have for this club, the hierarchy and the backstage staff is that after many years, six years, trophies and titles have been won.
“When you lose, you lose in the last games, the Champions League final or the FA Cup semi-final, we will be there for another year. That's what I'm most proud of as a manager. I love being here and working with this club for that reason. One year you can do it. I don't want to win the Champions League and then you're at the bottom of the table and you're not fighting. The Champions League destroys projects most of the time when you win and when you lose, this club is pretty stable under those conditions.
“Of course we won the Premier League and other titles, otherwise it would have been a different coach. I'm not stupid, I know how to analyze the team, what we need, what to do, not looking for specific results. That's why after 6 years we are at the end with seven weeks left, still fighting for titles. Ok, we lost the Carabao Cup but we're still here to lose titles. This is the most important trophy we have.
“Thank you very much, I tell you. The last three years the worst performance we had was the FA Cup semi-final, we weren't there. A lot of people come from Manchester these days, they don't have the same privileges as us, so at least we have to perform. Win or lose, perform like us. The first minute, warm-up, in the dressing room, we were there. That's why we were able to win.
