This is the second earliest team to take a five-goal lead in Premier League history after Manchester City scored five in the first 18 minutes against Watford in 2019.

The Tottenham fans who grew up in the Leazes stands no longer covet the humiliation, with many heading for the exits and the long journey home before the first half ended.

The only questions left are whether Newcastle can beat their 8-0 Premier League record against Sheffield Wednesday in 1999 and if Tottenham can avoid a record Premier League defeat - a 7-0 loss to Liverpool. 1978 or not.

Tottenham improved after the break, although it was difficult not to, with Harry Kane scoring a consoling goal in the fourth minute of the second half, but Callum Wilson scored Newcastle's sixth a minute after enter the field from the bench.

END DEADLY

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe told Sky Sports: "It was a great start to the game. "We upped our performance in that first half hour. You wouldn't expect that, but the quality of our finishing today was fantastic."

Tottenham's dire condition was evident in the fact that young midfielder Pape Matar Sarr was substituted after 23 minutes after looking out of his depth and replaced by defender Davinson Sanchez, who had been abandoned by his own fans. he booed last week after coming off the bench in the loss to Bournemouth.

"In football, if you come on the pitch without being aggressive, it's going to be very difficult," Tottenham captain Lloris told Sky Sports after an injury in the first half. "It was a bit of a mess on the field."
