A cheeky social media post by a Manchester United administrator ahead of the FA Cup semi-final against Brighton has everyone talking.
Last week, during preparations for a crucial Premier League clash with West Ham, several Arsenal players were criticized for not recognizing a young mascot when she handed over her shirt to sign autographs.
The official Gunners Twitter account posted a clip with the caption "Creating memories with our mascot" - a video that has since garnered more than 13 million views and continues to grow.
Many are unhappy with the Arsenal players involved because they cannot interact with the youngster, who clearly admires his idol.
A week later, the official Manchester United Twitter account posted a video with the caption "Make memories with our mascot". As you can see in the images below, Erik ten Hag, David de Gea, Casemiro, Wout Weghorst, Diogo Dalot, Bruno Fernandes and Anthony shake hands with young fans as they enter the dressing room at Wembley.
Here's how fans reacted to the post.
One person said:
"Just waiting for Arsenal fans to find this lmao", while another commented:
"Some teams need to take note."
The third added:
"It was a cheap shot, but it was delivered beautifully."
Following last week's mascot incident, talkSPORT presenter Laura Woods strongly criticized several Arsenal players for their lack of eye contact, saying:
"How to say 'Hello'?"
However, Woods revealed that she has been in contact with the club, who confirm she has been spending more time with the players during the warm-up.
"I agree, it doesn't take long to recognize someone by a smile," she said. "I think this video is quite typical for football and the players today. “To add some context, I actually texted the club because I think they thought 'they all stopped and signed that shirt, that's great'.
"Maybe that's what's causing the disconnect right now between what you have to do with these kinds of mascots."
Woods added:
"The club say it's part of the game day, so it's not the only interaction she has with the players. She's a mascot, she's out with them, she's on the pitch. He will play with them during warm-up.
"I think there's a lot we don't see, but that doesn't excuse this video because I watched it a few times and in my head I thought 'oh wait, it got cut after that, maybe they [recognized her]' and I went back and looked at it and they didn't.
"Perhaps it was a good lesson, the reaction of ordinary fans. It's a pre-game routine and I get it, you're in your bubble, but it really doesn't take long just to make eye contact.
"I've been watching this little girl and how she waits for eye contact or any form of recognition. Young Gunners have these great experiences, so hopefully elsewhere, Ms. She had a great day and had this interaction, but then, what does it take to just say hello?
