Lionel Messi is said to have arrived in Barcelona this weekend with his family and '14 suitcases'. Barcelona have made no secret of their efforts to bring the Argentine superstar back to the Camp Nou this summer.
His contract with Paris Saint-Germain is set to expire at the end of the season and the Ligue 1 giants appear to have abandoned negotiations over a new deal. Messi shed tears during his emotional farewell to Barcelona in 2021 as he left the club he joined at the age of 13 on a free transfer. He is about to win a second Ligue 1 title with PSG when the French team is 9 points ahead of the top team with only 6 matches remaining. But he looks set to leave the Parc des Princes this summer to return to Barcelona.
Adding to speculation about an imminent return, transfer expert Gerard Romero claimed Messi arrived at Barcelona over the weekend. It is thought the Argentina international made his trip on a 'private flight' and was accompanied by his family as he 'hidden in terminal one'.

Messi is also said to have carried '14 suitcases', which further suggests he is gearing up for a full-time return to Barcelona. The purpose of Messi's visit remains unclear, but his arrival in Spain only fuels speculation about his future.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has repeatedly admitted over the past few months that the club are trying to bring Messi back. "I have to find a way to improve Messi's current relationship with Barcelona.
"We'll see, but he knows Barcelona's doors are open for him. Messi is the best player in history. He is the most important player in the history of Barcelona.
"I have to be very careful with what I say because he is a PSG player and I have to have respect." Xavi has also been repeatedly asked about the possibility of Messi's return and the Barcelona boss echoes Laporta's claims.
“It will depend on many factors,” Xavi said. "You have to see what the rules of financial fair play allow us to do.
“There are many things at stake but I think the most important factor is Leo's desire to come back here. Leo knows this is his home and our doors are always open, and we would be delighted if he decides to return to Barca. But it depends on many factors. »
