Man Utd's best and worst players in FA Cup semi final win

Manchester United defeated Brighton & Hove Albion in a penalty shootout to advance to the FA Cup final.

At Wembley Stadium, the Red Devils were, in reality, heavily outplayed for the majority of regulation and extra time, but they managed to hang on until a penalty shootout.

Following Solly March's miss, Victor Lindelof was able to score the game-winning penalty kick after the first 12 penalties were all successfully executed.

According to the player ratings after 90 minutes, these are Man Utd's top and worse performers in the victory at Wembley.

Man Utd best player vs Brighton

David de Gea: 8/10

Following a rather hopeless showing in the Europa League on Thursday evening, De Gea was quickly back to his best on Sunday against Brighton.

The goalkeeper set the tone for what was a phenomenal performance inside the opening five minutes when he tipped an Alexis Mac Allister free kick over the bar, and he continued that form throughout the game.

Later in the second half, De Gea was there to stop Julio Encisco from scoring from close range. He also displayed bravery by charging off his line to stop Kaoru Mitoma from scoring what may have been the game-winning goal, hurting himself in the process.

The Spaniard did more than enough during regular and extra time to ensure that that won't be a stick to beat him with after the semi-final, despite the fact that he once again failed to save a penalty in the shootout.

Man Utd worst player vs Brighton

Anthony Martial: 2/10

A 2/10 performance in a semi final is really quite atrocious behaviour from Anthony Martial.

Starting as the centre forward - being preferred to Wout Weghorst in that role - Martial showed why the club are seemingly hellbent on signing a new number nine during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The French striker was unable to sufficiently hold up play, make any noteworthy attempts on goal, or even simply run around a little to exert some pressure on the Brighton defense as they attempted to build from the back.

Perhaps the simplest way to describe Martial's performance is his meek chipped effort in the first half, taken on with next to no conviction.

To put it mildly, Martial gave a lackluster performance.
