Manchester United defeated Brighton on penalties in their FA Cup semifinal match at Wembley, and they will now face Manchester City in the championship game.

After 120 minutes of scoreless play, the game was settled by penalty kicks, with United winning 7-6.

Victor Lindelof stepped up to comfortably score the game-winning goal after Solly March's shot was well past the crossbar.

After a terrifying night against Sevilla three days prior, David de Gea came up with a number of crucial saves to stave off Brighton before the shootout.

On June 3, Erik ten Hag's team will return to Wembley in an effort to prevent City from completing a possible treble and win their second trophy of the year after winning the Carabao Cup.

Alexis Mac Allister tested David de Gea early in the first half with a free kick from the edge of the area, forcing the Spanish goalkeeper to make a respectable save.

United labored in the opening minutes but found their footing in the game as the first half went on, maybe still grieving from their heartbreaking Europa League defeat on Thursday. The Brighton goalkeeper deflected Christian Eriksen's errant shot late in the half after Bruno Fernandes had put his team's finest effort just wide of the post.

Brighton started the second in control, pinning United back with Julio Enciso denied another wonder strike with de Gea palming over his vicious effort from inside the box.

United soaked up the pressure up until the hour mark before responding, with Antony finding space to operate down the right but failing to truly trouble the Brighton goalkeeper after finding his way through on goal.

With Brighton losing the focal point of Evan Ferguson, who was ruled out due to injury, and Anthony Martial failing to have an impact on the game, the second half was livelier but lacked cutting edge and incisive last pass from both teams.

When Brighton was taken off guard by a corner kick from United, Danny Welbeck sprinted in unmarked at the back post but headed his attempt over the crossbar.

As extra time approached, de Gea was once more called upon to perform. This time, he stooped to his left to deny Solly March and pounced to gather the loose ball with Pascal Gross on the move.
