Barcelona's brick wall provides the framework for an outstanding victory
Barcelona played against Atletico Madrid in a match that had the feeling of an end-of-season dead rubber. However, there was still much to admire about Barcelonas play against a difficult opponent. Barcelonas defense had the game under control for long periods, and they looked at ease during various passages of play, which may have given the impression that Kounde, Araujo, Alonso, and Balde were a little lazy. He is effortless on the football pitch and an utter joy to behold.
Raphinha was excellent on the opposite wing to Ferran, and he can blow hot and cold, but he gave his all on Sunday. If Robert Lewandowski had not been so selfish, the Brazilian wouldve bagged a goal to add to his assist, and another if he couldve reacted better to the centre-forwards cross. He looked dejected to be brought off late on, and perhaps didnt see the significance of Xavi allowing him the standing ovation that his performance deserved.
Overall, Barcelona played well against a difficult opponent, and their defense was in control for most of the match. Ter Stegen was exceptional, and de Jong's return made a significant difference in midfield. Ferran Torres, Pedri, and Raphinha all played well and contributed to Barcelona's victory. It was a joy to watch Pedri's effortless movement on the pitch, and Raphinha's performance deserved the standing ovation he received from Xavi.
