According to sources who spoke to 90min, Alexis Mac Allister is likely to remain in the Premier League this summer if his anticipated transfer away from Brighton & Hove Albion is through.
Although the 24-year-old midfielder, who earlier this season signed a new long-term contract, has officially dismissed rumors that he plans to leave the Amex Stadium this summer, his representatives, notably his father Carlos, are diligently searching for his next club.
Although Tottenham, Chelsea, and Newcastle have all expressed interest in Mac Allister, 90min knows that Liverpool, who are prepared to add up to three new midfielders this summer, is leading the race. It's also known that Manchester City and Manchester United are keeping an eye on his position.
The Seagulls 'don't know' what the summer will bring in terms of Mac Allister's future, according to Brighton CEO Paul Barber on talkSPORT on Monday, although he notably avoided completely ruling out the 24-year-old's exit.
In fact, 90min realizes that Brighton will permit Mac Allister to go under the appropriate circumstances, just as they have done over the previous 18 months for Marc Cucurella, Ben White, and Leandro Trossard. Brighton has been upset about Mac Allister's desire to move on behind the scenes.
To convince Brighton to sell their World Cup champion, though, a deal may need to be worth more than £70 million. At that price, a transfer outside of the Premier League is likely to be ruled out, leaving Mac Allister considering a move to one of the division's 'big six' instead.
A transfer is definitely happening this summer, according to Mac Allister's father, who reiterated that expectation to Argentine media over the weekend.
He said to Argentine outlet Ole that "the next phase of his career will pass and he will be playing within another institution. We don't know which one yet as the general discussions are just getting started, but most likely by next month." He will start playing for a different squad in July.
