The weekend saw scouts from Manchester United and Newcastle United in attendance to see Benjamin Sesko as the two teams continue to show interest in the Slovenian attacker, according to 90min.

Sesko, who is presently playing for RB Salzburg, scored in a 2-0 away victory for his team over Sturm Graz, their main rivals for the Austrian Bundesliga title. Sesko has scored eight goals in his previous seven league games.

Despite the fact that Sesko will turn 20 on May 31 and has been a target of several Premier League clubs for some time, he is set to join Salzburg's sister club RB Leipzig at the end of the current campaign. Due to their history of cooperation, the two clubs agreed to a €24 million deal in 2022 at a price below market.

That hasn't stopped several of the biggest clubs on the continent from looking into the prospect of an agreement before the start of the 2023–24 season, as 90min reported in October. Leipzig stand to make a healthy profit on the €24m they have committed to buy Sesko due to the interest being shown in him should they choose to negotiate even before he kicks a ball for the club.

Paying a lower price before Sesko becomes what many in the game regard to be one of the next top strikers in Europe would be the gain in exchange for the potential buyer. Comparisons to Erling Haaland, who too came up through the Red Bull system and played for Salzburg, are inescapable given his career trajectory and physique.

Sesko is one of the strikers who Erik ten Hag's United and Eddie Howe's Magpies are considering as they prepare for potential Champions League comeback next season.

According to 90min, Newcastle is looking for a new striker. In the summer, Callum Wilson, who wants to play regular first-team football, might depart St. James' Park. Although Alexander Isak has been playing well lately and will continue to do so, Newcastle is trying to gradually assemble a team that will be able to contend at the top of the Premier League and in Europe in coming seasons.
