According to 90min, Chelsea is willing to extend Mason Mount's contract for a little period of time in an effort to allay his immediate concerns about his future with the team.
The vast majority of the Premier League's elite are all eager to sign the 24-year-old if he does go, and Mount has been warned repeatedly that he would be sold this summer if he continues to refuse the offer of new terms. Mount's current contract is about to expire in a year.
Chelsea have renewed faith in Mount's future, as 90min reported earlier this month. The decision-makers at Stamford Bridge believe that while an extension is still far off, things are moving in the right manner.
Chelsea's optimism is mostly related to their efforts to find a new manager. Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly close to taking over as the new Blues manager, and it is believed that this indication of desire would persuade Mount to remain.
However, in order to increase their chances of keeping Mount, Chelsea is also willing to grant the academy graduate a temporary extension of one or two years. This would allay any immediate fears about leaving and give Chelsea time to win Mount over.
With Liverpool eager to close a deal after conceding their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham, whose €150m price tag could be more than double Chelsea's asking price for Mount if he does enter the market, the Reds are seen as the biggest threat to Chelsea's hopes of keeping Mount.
Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle, and Bayern Munich are all interested in Mount following the hiring of former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.
As the season draws to a close, Chelsea has not given up on keeping Mount and will continue to speak with him and his representatives in an effort to find a solution to one of their major summertime problems.
The Blues are aware of the potential financial gain from selling Mount, but many other players are said to be available for sale in order to acquire the required funds.
At Stamford Bridge, a sizable number of players are uneasy and face unclear futures, and Chelsea is open to considering proposals, particularly for those whose contracts are about to expire.
