Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea creates a domino effect for Liverpool
Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is said to be emerging as a good candidate for the vacant coaching position at Chelsea.
The Argentinian coach has been in active talks with the Chelsea owner, which could lead to confirmation that he will become Graham Potter's permanent successor. Pochettino has been out of work since being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain in July, and his appointment at Stamford Bridge could lead to transfer speculation surrounding his former Tottenham players.
The most notable of these is striker Harry Kane, who is expected to leave Spurs in the summer transfer window. If Pochettino is appointed, it could also have a spillover effect on other Premier League clubs, including Liverpool. The Argentinian coach is said to be keen to support Chelsea's plan to phase out the 31-man squad before the start of the pre-season.
This could benefit Liverpool, who have been linked with a number of Chelsea players. Liverpool's interest in Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is no secret, with the Red Devils keen to sign the player until 2024.
Liverpool have also expressed interest in Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic, whose contract expires in 2024 and could be available for a cheaper price. Another Chelsea midfielder who is also interested in Liverpool is Conor Gallagher. Gallagher has a contract with Chelsea until 2025 and could be a cheaper option than Mount. Liverpool are expected to meet Kovacic's representatives, while Manchester United and Manchester City also plan to hold talks.
The arrival of Pochettino could benefit Liverpool in transfer negotiations for all three players, with Chelsea needing to comply with Financial Fair Play rules following a huge under-spending. co-owner Todd Boehly. However, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea are willing to sell one or more of the three, especially to a direct rival.
