Fernandes was replaced by Wout Weghorst after 101 minutes at Wembley Stadium on Sunday. He appeared frustrated at being sent off and was seen yelling at his teammates on the touchline during the final stages of a tense match.
United then secured their place in the final with a 7-6 penalty shootout win, but the victory appeared to have come at a cost.
