Real Madrid is 'considering a summer transfer for Kai Havertz'
Real Madrid is reportedly considering a move for Chelsea forward Kai Havertz in the upcoming summer transfer window. Havertz's impressive form for Bayer Leverkusen had attracted interest from several top clubs around the world, but Chelsea won the race for his signature in September 2020. Since then, the 23-year-old has been a regular player for the Blues, featuring in 133 games across all competitions and contributing 32 goals and 15 assists.
However, Havertz has struggled to replicate his form this season, managing only nine goals and one assist in 41 appearances so far. Despite his underwhelming performance, there is still strong interest in the German forward from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. The latter is said to be looking for a new forward in the upcoming transfer window, and Havertz has allegedly been identified as a genuine target.
Havertz's future at Chelsea is uncertain as his contract only has two years left to run, and the club is expected to see players leaving this summer. With the arrival of a new center-forward during the transfer window, it is unclear what role Havertz would have in the team next season. Additionally, Chelsea is unlikely to secure Champions League football for the 2023-24 season as they sit in 11th place in the Premier League, far behind the top four.
Real Madrid has reportedly renewed Karim Benzema's contract for another season, but the Frenchman is expected to play his final campaign for the club next term. Los Blancos lack alternatives to Benzema at center-forward, with Mariano Diaz set to depart on a free transfer this summer. Hence, Real Madrid is determined to sign another forward for the 2023-24 campaign, which is expected to be busy in terms of volume of matches.
Havertz himself has recently stated that he is happy at Chelsea, but the lure of playing for one of Europe's biggest clubs like Real Madrid could prove tempting. Chelsea could also use Havertz's transfer fee to fund their other transfer activities this summer. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether Real Madrid can convince Chelsea to part with their promising forward.
