Liverpool made their first 'signing' of the summer as Jurgen Klopp confirmed his right-back plans

With the transfer window fast approaching, much of the attention around Liverpool has focused on the need to strengthen midfield.

After pulling out of the race for Jude Bellingham's signature, Liverpool have turned to other targets in midfield - with the number of players linked with the Merseyside club seemingly increasing day by day.

While this is certainly the area that needs the most attention this summer, the first addition to Jurgen Klopp's main squad is expected to take an entirely different stance.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool will not be looking for another right-back in the summer transfer window and will instead rely on youngster Conor Bradley.

The 19-year-old has impressed on loan at Bolton Wanderers this season, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 49 appearances. He also helped the League One team raise the Papa John's Trophy while maintaining their push for promotion to the Championship.

Klopp reveals Bradley's pre-season plans

Klopp has confirmed that Bradley will have a chance to impress in pre-season when he returns from loan at Bolton.

"The plan at the moment is to bring him back and keep him, but let's wait and see," Klopp said.

"Let's bring him back, start pre-season and then enjoy the steps he's taken, then we'll decide together what we're going to do from here on out."

"Everybody talks about him positively," added Klopp.

“I think a year and a half ago only a few football enthusiasts knew him and now everyone knows him. That's great and that's the first step.

"He's our guy, whom I love dearly. A great mentality, extremely helpful, and everything else will come - and we're all pretty sure of that. So there you go. finished.

“Conor will be our player, but at this age we have to see if a post-season loan makes more sense. We will decide then and not now."

While Liverpool have other options besides Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back, it is suggested that this season the England international lacks competition.

Joe Gomez has struggled on form in the current campaign, while Calvin Ramsey has made just two first-team appearances since arriving from Aberdeen after his first injury-hit season with the Reds.

Should Bradley pass the pre-season test, he could go on to secure a spot in Liverpool's main squad, potentially saving the club millions of dollars in the transfer market.
