Newcastle are now poised to wrap up their fourth tour, with coach Eddie Howe set to receive a transfer war chest to help his side compete in the Champions League.

Eddie Howe is set to make the current Arsenal star his top transfer priority this summer as Newcastle plan to spend huge in their bid to compete for the Champions League.

After beating Tottenham 6-1 at St James' Park on Sunday, Howe's side finished third in the table, five points ahead of fifth-placed Aston Villa, having played two fewer games. Indeed, only a marked drop in form would prevent the Toon side from dining at Europe's finest dining table for the first time since the 2002/03 season.

Since a controversial takeover by a Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund consortium in October 2021, the club has so far been reluctant to pay exorbitant fees to players. But that could change this summer, with bosses looking to bolster the squad with an inevitably expanding roster of fixtures. According to The Sun, a place in the top four means Howe has spent £150m on players. And although Dan Burn has done an excellent job at left-back for most of the season, the English boss wants a top specialist in the position.

And a move for Kieran Tierney from Arsenal has now been announced. Tierney arrived from Celtic before the 2019/20 campaign for a fee of £25m, helping the club win the FA Cup. The 25-year-old Scot has become one of Mikel Arteta's most consistent players over the next two years. But signing Oleksandr Zinchenko has limited his playing time in this 2022/23 season. Indeed, he was not used as a substitute as the Gunners drew 3-3 with Southampton on Friday night, a result that could potentially damage their title ambitions.

This has led to speculation about his future at Arsenal, with Howe looking set to appear. And he is not the only target, with Bayer Leverkusen Moussa Diaby also being watched after impressing with his performances in the Bundesliga.

Indeed, Newcastle are set to move deep into Europe with former Leeds player Raphinha from Barcelona also on Howe's wish list. And more than that, he arranges a double raid from the Turkish side Fenerbahce to sign Arda Guler and Ferdi Kadioglu.

Howe's army has a great opportunity to cement their place in the top 4 this week with two matches against teams competing for relegation. They travel to Everton on Thursday, before hosting bottom team Southampton on Sunday.
