The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged Parliament to examine everyone as soon as possible, including any government personnel included in Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng's study on the operations of illicit mining in the nation.
The investigation was required, according to the party, which was led by Sammy Gyamfi, its national communications officer, to uncover the facts revealed in the report and aid in sanitizing the mining industry and safeguarding the nation's natural resources.
According to him, millions of government dollars were wasted trying to stop unlawful mining, so Ghanaians "deserve this investigation."
The report was created as a result of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on illicit Mining's (IMCIM) work and was intended to assist reveal the identities of those behind illicit mining activities and the ones who funded it.
launder money
The party also demanded that Parliament look into the claims of money laundering made in the Al Jazeera investigative investigation.
Additionally, it has urged the Special Prosecutor (SP) to look into and bring charges against anybody implicated in the two reports.
Presser
Yesterday, Mr. Gyamfi spoke at a press conference in Accra, saying, "Now that it has been proved that the entire 'battle' was a sham, our country is unified in shouting for justice.
Anything less than a joint investigation into this issue, according to Mr. Gyamfi, "will be fiercely resisted."
Commitment
The two investigations supported the NDC's long-held claim that there had never been a sincere commitment to or endeavour to, in the words of the communications officer, battle galamsey by the present administration.
The research verifies one fact: several members of the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia government have engaged in illicit mining as a free-for-all business.
"Many have been cited to have either engaged in or promoted illegal mining with reckless abandon by the Presidency, from ministers, presidential staffers and other associates in government, to national, regional, constituency and even unit committee executives of the New Patriotic Party, their agents, personal assistants, relatives and financiers," he claimed.
