Former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has delivered a shock attack on his former team-mate Harry Maguire, making huge claims about the Reds captain.

Rojo is now the captain of Boca Juniors in his native Argentina after seven years with United, where he made 122 appearances.

His playing time decreased significantly during his time at Old Trafford and in the 2019/20 season, he only started once in the Premier League.

Maguire became the top choice after a record £80m move from Leicester and eventually became the club's captain mid-season following Ashley Young's departure from Inter Milan.

But Rojo was not content with not playing at the cost of Maguire, who was eventually sacked by Rojo's compatriot Lisandro Martinez at United after signing from Ajax last summer. He accused Maguire of 'weekly fouls' and claimed Solskjaer told him the England defender had to be picked due to the huge fee United paid him.

In a special interview with TyC Sports, Rojo said:

"In 2019, I'm playing in the Europa League, but I'm really angry with the Manchester manager [Solskjaer] because he put Maguire [in the squad] in my place, who thank God for putting him in off the starting line - for Licha [Lisandro] Martinez.

"One day I went to Solskjaer's office to tell him to let me go to another club or put [me] in the starting XI, but he told me that Maguire had to come on for the money they paid. paid him.

“He [Maguire] made a huge mistake and I said to Solskjaer:

"You son of a bitch, let me play because this guy makes a huge mistake every week" [laughs].

Maguire has largely struggled to find a first-team opportunity this season and made a fatal mistake in United's Europa League exit to Sevilla.

He was suspended for the FA Cup semi-final against Brighton but missed the 2-2 draw with Spurs through injury. Hothead Rojo won three trophies at United, winning the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Europa League.
