According to Gareth Bale, he is not currently thinking about coming out of retirement to play for Wrexham.
Rob McElhenney, a co-owner of Wrexham, tweeted after his team was promoted to League Two, asking Gareth Bale if he'd like to play golf, which 'absolutely' wouldn't be a four-hour attempt to persuade the retired former Tottenham and Real Madrid winger to come out of retirement.
Ryan Reynolds, another co-owner, even got involved, pledging to shave a golf course into McElhenney's back to persuade Bale.
By tweeting "Depends what course" in response to McElhenney's remark, the former Welsh winger stoked the controversy.
However, when asked specifically if he would be interested in joining Wrexham when speaking at the UK Sport Industry Awards 2023, Bale, 33, shattered fans' expectations by saying he was merely playing along with the joke.
Bale responded, "No, I don't believe so. "I believe I was more interested in Rob offering me a free game of golf.
"I'm sure we'll talk and laugh, but I'm pretty content where I am right now.
I'm spending a lot of time with my wife and kids, time that I've lost a lot of due to my dedication to football over the years. I'm simply taking it easy with my family and playing golf.
Bale continued by emphasizing that he did not miss playing football to further drive home his message.
“No. I'm having a great time away. I got started when I was young because I thought the moment was perfect, he said. "We left Wales football in a great place, and I'm sure they'll still strive and do good things," the speaker said.
At the age of 33, six months after leaving Real Madrid for Los Angeles FC, Bale decided to end his career.
Bale has switched from playing football to playing golf since hanging up his cleats, but he still found the time to congratulate McElhenney on his achievement with Wrexham this season in a message.
