RealMadrid suffer Luka Modric injury blow ahead of Osasuna, Manchester City clashes

Luka Modric, the midfielder for Real Madrid, will miss the team's upcoming La Liga match against Almeria due to a hamstring injury that he sustained in their recent game against Girona. Modric was replaced in the 63rd minute of the match, which Real Madrid lost 4-2, and was later seen with ice on his thigh. He will also be a major doubt for the Copa del Rey final against Osasuna on May 6, and there are concerns over his availability for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City.

Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, expressed his concerns over Modric's injury during a press conference on Friday. He stated that the midfielder's experience cannot be replaced and that he hopes Modric will be available for the important games that are left. Ancelotti also mentioned that Dani Ceballos is the player who is most similar to Modric in terms of characteristics, but they have different resources in midfield.

Modric has been a key player for Real Madrid during the current season, featuring in 44 matches across all competitions and contributing six goals and six assists. His contract at Bernabeu is set to expire at the end of June, but it is believed that he has agreed to a one-year extension.

In addition to Modric, Ferland Mendy and David Alaba are also out of action for Real Madrid due to calf and hamstring problems respectively. However, Karim Benzema and Eden Hazard have recovered from minor issues and are included in the squad for the Almeria match, while Thibaut Courtois is also back after recovering from a stomach illness.

Real Madrid has lost three of their last six league matches, which has allowed Barcelona to maintain a comfortable lead at the top of the table despite their recent struggles. Modric has played a significant role in Real Madrid's run to the semi-finals of the Champions League, scoring two goals and providing one assist in eight appearances. He has also contributed to the team's Copa del Rey campaign, providing assists against Atletico Madrid and Barcelona in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.
