Former
president John Dramani Mahama in a speech to the opposition National Democratic
Congress (NDC) party supporters when he sent his campaign for re-election at
Asante Akyem North in the Ashanti Region on Friday, April 28, 2023 said that,
the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is currently in power, has failed and will
be unable to use the remaining one and a half years of its power to improve
Ghana nor the citizens.
He
said there is nothing the party can do within the time frame left to bring
relief to the Ghanaian people, adding that sufferings and lamentations of
Ghanaians are as a result of their own mistake made by trusting in the NPP
government with power over the sugar quoted words and sweet promises made by
the party in the 2016 and 2020 elections.
In campaigning for re-election
to lead the opposition party in the general elections of 2024, The former
president of the country, claimed that Ghanaians had realized their mistake in
electing the NPP and are patiently waiting for the 2024 elections to restore
the NDC to power.
He
even said some die-hard supporters of the governing NPP were all heart-broken
and disappointed over the underperformance and incompetency of the NPP
government, urging all Ghanaians to vote in the 2024 elections according to
their living standards. Mr Mahama said businesses in Ghana collapsed as they
were not earning profit and that the hardship has affected every sector of the
economy. However, he encouraged them and gave them hope that, if they should
correct their mistake by voting him as their leader in the 2024 elections, he
will make the country his number one priority and put the needs of the citizens
and the country first.
He further cautioned Ghanaians
against electing somebody who has no prior experience in governing to
govern the nation again.
