Liverpool maintained their slim hopes of breaking into the Premier League top four with a 2-1 win over West Ham United on Wednesday.

Jurgen Klopp's side fell to the Hammers for the first time ever, with Lucas Paqueta opening the scoring for the hosts at London Stadium.

The Red Devils counter-attacked well and won all 3 points thanks to goals from Cody Gakpo and Joel Matip.

Next up for Jurgen Klopp's side is an important game against Champions League hopefuls Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday.

Meanwhile, it looks like Liverpool's pursuit of the Premier League star could soon fail. According to Football Insider, Chelsea's attempt to sign midfielder Mason Mount could fail if they fail to qualify for next season's Champions League.

It is claimed that the midfielder's priority is to continue to play at the highest level and compete for titles, although Liverpool may not offer him if he has to tackle football from the Europa League. into next season.

Mount's future remains uncertain as he approaches the final 12 months of his final deal

Mount, 24, made his senior debut for boyhood club Chelsea in 2019 and has now made 195 appearances for the club, scoring 33 goals and providing 37 assists.

However, his contract expires next summer and negotiations between his agent and his current employers have so far not progressed.

This has prompted other clubs to be interested in the England international, and Liverpool are believed to be among the candidates who want to sign Mount should he leave Stamford Bridge. Arsenal, Newcastle United and Manchester United are also said to be keeping an eye on the Englishman, and all three are likely to brag about the growing appeal of next season's Champions League football.

Mount has struggled in recent times, coming on as a substitute only once in Chelsea's last eight league games as he battled a pelvic injury.

The midfielder is now almost certainly out for the rest of the current campaign, which means he has played his last game for the club.
