Jurrien Timber, a defender for Ajax, has admitted that he is 'coming closer and closer' to leaving the Dutch team.
Following Erik ten Hag's move to Old Trafford, Timber was targeted by Manchester United last summer. However, the Dutch team declined to make a deal and instead persuaded Timber to stay for at least another season.
However, United's interest is still present, and according to 90min, Red Devils officials were in attendance last weekend during Ajax's match against PSV Eindhoven to take another look at Timber and a few other players.
Prior to the summer transfer window, the 21-year-old is one of Manchester United's top defensive targets. In an interview with De Telegraaf, Timber acknowledged that he may leave Ajax in the near future.
So to say, a transfer is getting closer and closer, he remarked. There is a great deal of actual interest, and I have agreements with Ajax.
"Last season, Ajax requested that I sign a contract extension and sign on for at least one more season. I did that out of love for the team, but after this season, we'll reassess the circumstances.
"I frequently converse with men who play football overseas when I'm with the Dutch national team. One day, I want to make that move. However, you will eventually learn when that is, and Ajax will be involved.
"I remain here, and I'm not rushing. The cup final and the rest of the season are now in the forefront.
This summer, United wants to bolster its defense to give Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, Timber's old teammate at Ajax, additional competition.
Axel Disasi of Monaco and Benjamin Pavard of Bayern Munich are two players who United have kept an eye on, but according to reports, Timber is at the top of the Red Devils' list of desired players going into the summer transfer season.
