We all know that yellow and red cards are part of football, but did you know there are also green cards?

Last January, a referee made history when he first showed a white card in the match between Sporting Lisbon and Benfica.

The white card was given to praise fair play in matches. It is designed with the hope of promoting ethical values ??in sport.

In June 2018, green cards were used for the first time at the CONIFA World Cup, a tournament for international teams that is not affiliated with FIFA. During the match, the referee stops the game and gives a green card to a player to leave the field.

According to CONIFA rules, “a player receiving a green card must leave the field immediately, but can be substituted if his team has not exhausted his substitutions. A player receiving a green card is not disqualified from his team's next match.

Tournament organizer Paul Watson spoke to Sky Sports about using green cards.

I said:

“We really want to deal with dissent. Football has a problem with disrespecting referees. "That's not to say it doesn't happen in the CONIFA games either - the players in our league still have those traits.

"But it would be better if instead of being ignored and therefore in some way tolerated, it wouldn't necessarily be for someone to lose their chance to play in this tournament, if they just lost their cool."

Jens Jockel, President of CONIFA Asia, added:

“We've had some minor issues with late red cards in the past - mainly when teams realized they couldn't keep up and found themselves losing heavily with 10 minutes left.

"It's a very good idea on how to penalize things that might not deserve a red card. It's more like a personal foul - swearing, disrespecting spectators and coaches, etc. It's the ideal way to find looking for something in between."
