Former Arsenal assistant captain Kolo Toure believes that star players Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli will stay at Emirates despite fears that they could be sold in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Arsenal is having a good season under coach Mikel Arteta, leading the league by two points against Manchester City, but The Gunners have played two more games. Their success has been driven by their youngest players.
Arsenal fans have been worried that their best players could be sold as the club has done in the past when failing to satisfy them by winning titles.
Toure, Gael Clichy, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Samir Nasri all left Emirates for Etihad between 2009 and 2011 at the beginning of Sheikh Mansour's reign at Man City. Since then, Man City has won six Premier League titles, chasing the seventh this season, while Arsenal has come up empty for 19 seasons, with their last being in the 2003/04 season when Toure was playing for Arsenal.
For example, Saka's contract will expire in June, but Toure believes that the star player, along with Martinelli, will remain at the club.
Toure said, "I'm sure this won't happen, Edu and Arteta know what to do. They've been in football for a long time, so they understand the importance of keeping players together for a long time. They need to protect their team for three years or more to have a great quality on the field."
Under the leadership of director of football Edu, Arsenal has built a very young and talented team. Saka (21), Martinelli (21), Eddie Nketiah (23), Jakub Kiwior (23), Takehiro Tomiyasu (24), Fabio Vieira (22), Reiss Nelson (23), Emile Smith Rowe (22), Aaron Ramsdale (24), and captain Martin Odegaard (24) are all in their youth and ready to fight on the field.
