Real Madrid priority target offered a new contract with €150m release clause by current club
Borussia Dortmund is reportedly growing frustrated with the ongoing transfer saga surrounding their young midfielder, Jude Bellingham. The 19-year-old, who has a contract with Dortmund until 2025, is being pursued by Real Madrid and Manchester City, but has not yet made a decision about his future. In an attempt to persuade Bellingham to stay, Dortmund has offered him a new contract with a release clause worth €150 million. Discussions are ongoing between Dortmund's sporting director and Bellingham's father about the extension.
Reports previously suggested that Real Madrid has a plan in place to sign Bellingham in the summer. The Spanish club is reportedly willing to offer him a five- or six-year deal and a salary just below that of Thibaut Courtois and Vinicius Jr. During discussions about the length of the contract, Real Madrid presented a plan for how they would use Bellingham's services in the future. Bellingham's representatives also visited Real Madrid's training facilities and dined with club officials. Real Madrid hopes to close the deal by May and make it official by June, following the UEFA Champions League final, in order to beat out Manchester City for Bellingham's signature.
However, Dortmund is unaware of any such developments and is working to keep Bellingham at the club beyond this season. If Bellingham signs an extension with Dortmund that includes the release clause, it would mean that whoever activates the clause would get the midfielder without any bidding war.
