Jurgen Klopp believes Chelsea bosses have given Graham Potter a 'near impossible job' at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea news, exclusives and analysis

Potter, who replaced Thomas Tuchel in September, was sacked by Chelsea earlier this month, while the club have lost all five games since Frank Lampard was appointed caretaker manager.

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital have invested heavily in overhauling Chelsea's squad since the summer, spending almost £600m on new signings.

But Klopp insists Chelsea's lack of transfer strategy has made it difficult for any manager to build teamwork at Stamford Bridge and is adamant that Liverpool will not make the same mistake.

"Honestly, I feel a bit sorry for Chelsea because things are not going well," Klopp told Sky Sports. "I think they're a top team, but on the other hand, it's good to see that you can't put the best players together and think it works.

"You have to build a team and that's something that the people there clearly underestimated and gave their coach an almost impossible job to do."

"You can't have two dressing rooms, you can't train on two pitches, you have to create relationships, you have to create teamwork and that's the only reason why I'm happy with that." there.

“In the end Chelsea will be fine and they will be extremely strong next year, but I just use them as an example.

"At the highest level, you can't do that. And that's something we [Liverpool] won't do.

"You have to sign the right players and build a new team. This team has written a sensational story, now we are starting a new story, that's all.

Liverpool are said to have opened talks with Sporting Lisbon midfielder Manuel Ugarte amid interest from Arsenal.

The Reds have endured a tough campaign on Merseyside and look set to miss out on a Champions League spot for the first time since the 2015/16 season.

Much of Jurgen Klopp's problems this term have been attributed to his midfield, which looks the weakest at the best of times.

In turn, the German is planning an overhaul this summer, and 22-year-old defensive midfielder Ugarte is the latest name to be linked with a move to Anfield.

Ugarte to Liverpool? Journalist Bruno Andrade has told CNN Portugal that Liverpool have contacted Sporting about a potential deal for Ugarte.

Negotiations have taken place with the Uruguayan, who has made 43 appearances for his club this season.

Portuguese outlet O Jogo echoed Andrade's words, adding that Newcastle, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Leeds are also monitoring Ugarte, which means Liverpool need to act quickly.

Klopp is said to be "impressed" with Ugarte's performance this season, who could replace Fabinho in the long run.

Sporting will only be willing to part with their prized possession if his full release clause of €60m (£53m) is met. However, the same publication said Ugarte's departure was 'virtually inevitable' with the player unwilling to extend his current contract.

Meanwhile, Sporting could be looking to cash in on him as they look to raise funds for new players this summer.

Liverpool could also face competition from Premier League leaders Arsenal, who impressed Ugarte in their Europa League draw with Sporting in March.

The club sent scouts to watch him play in Sporting's next round against Juventus, with the Gunners recruitment team said to be "delighted" at his performance.
