Kolo Toure, a former teammate of Vincent Kompany's at Manchester City, claims he has always possessed "the manager skill" and that he has succeeded as the manager of Burnley.

Vincent Kompany, in Kolo Toure's opinion, received the ideal management crash course while working under Pep Guardiola.

Burnley's new manager, former Manchester City captain Kompany, has had a successful season taking the Clarets back to the top of the Premier League and winning the Championship.

Kompany, 37, departed City in 2019 to join Anderlecht as player-manager.

His success at Turf Moor has made him one of the most sought-after young managers, with Tottenham apparently keen in hiring him in north London since he joined Burnley last year.

Toure, a former City teammate of Kompany's, believed the Belgian would achieve great things in management despite having a challenging, brief tenure as Wigan Athletic manager earlier in the 2022–23 season.

"You could feel that [he would be a manager]," Toure said to Stats Perform.

"Vincent has it all. He is a skilled manager. It was already a player in my mind. You could see he had a terrific relationship with the players even when he wasn't captain.

"A fantastic relationship with the owners, a fantastic relationship with the media, and a fantastic relationship with the fans.

He's always been incredibly brilliant, able to connect with people very quickly, and a phenomenal speaker of both languages. And he did a great job of preparing.

During his 11-season tenure at City, Kompany spent three of those years playing under Guardiola, and Toure thinks the Spaniard was the ideal mentor.

"I think for me what is the best thing that happened to him is to be able to play and be managed by Pep Guardiola because he learned from Pep, and Pep is an unbelievable manager," stated Toure.

What he has been learning from him is incredible, and he is really demonstrating that. Of course, he has some specifics on the style of play he wants this team to adopt. However, if you look at his team, he most definitely borrowed that from Pep Guardiola.

Toure's first attempt at managing did not turn out quite as well; he was only in charge of Wigan for 59 days.
