In an unpleasant interview with Sky Sports, Jurgen Klopp criticizes Premier League referees.
Jurgen Klopp launched an incredible tirade against referee Paul Tierney after he was yellow-carded in Liverpool's stunning 4-3 win against Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday.
Following Liverpool's thrilling 4-3 win over Tottenham at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp suggested that referee Paul Tierney has a personal issue with him or his team.
Tierney booked Klopp in the second half for arguing a free kick awarded to Mohamed Salah. Diogo Jota ran down the touchline to celebrate his 94th-minute winner in front of fourth official John Brooks.
On his way back to his technical area, he injured his hamstring in unusual moments that capped a dramatic encounter. Following the game, Liverpool manager Klopp launched an eye-catching rant against Tierney in an interview with Sky Sports, which ended awkwardly.
"Of course, it was very emotional," he said. "In particular, the situation preceding their third goal. How can he (Tierney) call a foul on Mo Salah up front when nobody... The linesman is present and keeps the flag down until the ref whistles.
"If we had kept the ball there, the next situation would not have occurred." It's not cool to get a free kick and then have the ball in [our net]. We have a story to tell about Mr Tierney.
"I'm not sure what this man is up to with us. I honestly don't know. He'll always declare there's nothing, which isn't true and cannot be. I must express myself. I don't understand how it could be. I'm not sure if it's my fault because he Look at me... I'm not sure what you're talking about.
"I have no problem with anyone - including him - but it's just like, 'Again?!'" He was the referee at Tottenham earlier this season when Harry Kane was not sent a red card. Harry Kane - I love this player, what a player - insane - I don't want him to receive a red card in that game, but it was a red card. And it was Mr Tierney, and no one questioned him since in England you are not required to clarify circumstances. It's extremely complex and difficult to grasp.
"My celebration towards the fourth officials - I didn't say anything bad, nothing - but it was unnecessary, and I was immediately punished for it." That's okay, I pulled my hamstring or adductor, that's fine and reasonable. But what he said to me when he handed me the yellow card..."
When interviewer Patrick Davidson asked him to elaborate, he said, "No, it's not possible." But it's also not acceptable." Klopp then attempted to leave, but was interrupted by another inquiry. "No, because I already said what I wanted to say, so there's no need for another question."
