To better protect the safety and health of workers, both the government and employees have accepted the need to update the rule that covers occupational safety and health holistically and thoroughly.

This is due to the fact that, despite the fact that worker safety and health are essential for productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency, employers and employees frequently choose convenience over acting morally, prioritizing health and safety as a less expensive price to pay for prevention, and only end up paying a costly price to provide compensation when the unexpected occurs.

The safety and wellness of employees are frequently taken for granted, and the workforce inevitably pays a price with unpleasant office furniture, inadequate ventilation, and a lack of proper personal protection equipment for field people.

their health, either while working or after retirement, when they lack the means to control their circumstances.

Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, stated that the government acknowledged that the national policy and legal framework on occupational safety and health needed significant improvement. The Trades Union Congress (TUC) is urging the government to speed up the promulgation of the law.

It is not overstated to say that a comprehensive national occupational safety and health law is needed. In order to create a solid policy and legal framework, the government is responding to these legitimate concerns, according to Mr. Baffour Awuah, who spoke at a celebration for World Health and Safety Day, which happened on Tuesday.

20th birthday

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is being commemorated this year for the twentieth time.

The day was established by the trades union movement in 1996 to honor the important job done by people and to raise awareness of the need to lessen workplace accidents and injuries to employees. It is observed to serve as a reminder to everyone that everyone has a right to a safe and healthy workplace.

It emphasizes the reality that upholding this right is the duty of businesses, governments, and society at large.

Additionally, it is observed to honor the memory of employees who have died while performing their jobs or have become disabled in various ways.

The day is also used to promote more secure working conditions for employees.

The focus of the campaign this year was "A safe and healthy working environment is a fundamental principle and right at work."

Situation

Although employees have a responsibility to themselves to ensure that they work safely to protect both themselves and their coworkers from harm, they frequently fail to uphold this standard and do little to advance their rights or safeguard their interests out of concern for their jobs.

According to studies, this is a worry for those who work in factories and the garbage collection business.

According to TUC data, 1,043 people were engaged in work-related incidents at their places of employment last year, and 37 of these resulted in fatalities.
