Genevieve Partington, the country director for Ghana for Amnesty International, the largest human rights organization in the world, has expressed worry over a series of human rights violations occurring in Ghana that are beginning to tarnish Ghana's reputation as a democratic society.
Ms. Partington evaluated Ghana's performance by citing Amnesty International's most recent global report on the state of human rights (2022/23) and stating that "There are highs and lows in Ghana; I think every year something comes up; we go low sometimes, you know, a few steps forward and a few steps back." For instance, Ghana is not looking well in our just-released State of Human Rights report, which we just issued, she stated on JoyNews' Foreign Affairs.
Amnesty International claims that 2022 was marked by "new, renewed, and extended conflicts that resulted in horrifying fatalities."
"Some of them amounted to crimes against humanity and war crimes." Authorities proceeded to ruthlessly suppress universal liberties all around the world.
It said, "Economic issues resulted in skyrocketing food and fuel price increases as well as greater strain on health and other social services." The most disadvantaged were worst harmed, and inequality increased. Gender-based violence and discrimination were experienced by women, girls, and LGBTI individuals.
These global and regional issues are linked in the Amnesty International Report 2022–23.
A detailed account of several human rights violations that occurred in Ghana was included in the study that assesses the human rights status in 156 nations as of 2022.
"There were several instances of police using excessive force and the right to free speech being violated." continued forced evictions. There are two measures in parliament that would do away with the death sentence. A law that will make LGBTI individuals even more criminals is still pending. Women were still subjected to prejudice. It stated that "child labor was reported."
Genevieve Partington advocated for stronger legislative measures to address the report's rising human rights concerns as well as the discrimination against women and children while breaking down the issues on Joy News.
