Diogo Jota, a forward for Liverpool, has admitted he apologized to Oliver Skipp, a midfielder for Tottenham, after the Spurs player was struck in the head during Sunday's 4-3 victory.

When Jota's high boot made contact with Skipp's head and the midfielder had to leave the game with a nasty cut, Spurs fans were outraged. Their rage increased when Jota went on to score the most recent winner while most fans thought he shouldn't have been on the field in the first place.

Jota admitted he apologized to Skipp immediately following the game, but he insisted he supported the official's choice to withhold a red card.

Jota stated to Premier League Productions, "It was not good, obviously it's not my intention to cause any harm to him." "But regrettably, it took place.

"After that awful tackle, all I could do was beg him to say "sorry," but I also believe it is not a red because I touched the ball and had no desire to damage him.

Despite Jota's conviction, interim Spurs manager Ryan Mason was astounded that Jota escaped further consequences for the incident.

Mason told Sky Sports, "It's one of the clearest red cards I've seen; it's hard to swallow. It's impossible to overlook this one.

To extract blood from a stud when Skipp's head is 5.5 feet in the air and you talk about endangering an opponent perplexes me. Depending on how you choose to play the game, you might win or lose.

It's difficult to understand, so please explain. I witnessed the incident firsthand, so I can understand how such kinds of times feel. The benefit of a replay is available to the VAR official.

"I would like an explanation and a justification for why it wasn't [a red card]," Mason continued. While my gut reaction was an instant red card, I can see how officials on the field could have missed it. After all, when you make contact with a player's head while standing five and a half feet off the ground, draw blood, and cause a gash, I believe it meets all the necessary criteria for a red card.
