Coat of many colors, yes, women in the market are like single coat with many colors.
I’ve had the opportunity to sit with these women on several occasions at different markets yet the experience was the same in these different places.
These women are so flexible and versatile that they can easily change their demeanor to suit any situation or issue in the market environ. They don’t have one color, I mean they easily adjust their choices, mood etc to suit any situation around them. It’s difficult to know which side they stand or path they stand in, they pick up any path.So far as I’m concerned, during my period of experience with them, it was difficult for me to trust or confide in any of them .
They are very compassionate if the situation needs to be shown compassion likewise, you’ll be utterly surprised to see them switch from a compassionate state to a boiling fit of anger if there’s another situation or even same situation requiring that. As if they have a button which transform them.
One time a trotro mate had a quarrel with a passenger who got down in front of these women. The trotro mate got down to continue the quarrel with this passenger and the situation got heated up that it resulted to exchange of hands.
I was at the opposite side of the situation and couldn’t get in details why these two were fighting but what caught my attention was the reactions of these market women towards the situation.
At first they picked a side, they were in support of the passenger who was older than the mate and a bit calm in the situation ( I guess they supported him at first because of how he showed maturity and trying to handle the mate calmly)
Within a split of a second I saw these women harshly descending on both the mate and the passenger. It was so fierce that the passenger had to pick another trotro and escape the scene.
I later discerned that the mate and passenger were quarreling on an unimportant and minor issue of just 20pesewas change. The women got bored finding out the two were fighting over a very minor issue. One woman said “ they’ve wasted our time and made a lot of noise in our ears for an unimportant issue “
Many colors indeed, market women will be advising youngsters among them on relationships and sexuality. They’ll speak so genteel on the topic that you’ll think they’re all still virgins.
In that very second, you’ll want to vanish out of shyness due to their vulgarity on that same topic. I think the best place to be educated on sex is among these women when discussing it. They know much than you think they know…Herrh !
Among themselves also, they’re kind, jovial and generous. They stand with each other against buyers who try to bully or quarrel with them. Yet they can go from that very moment and not talk to each other for days over an issue. They just switch buttons.
One time early in the morning, as early as 8am, I saw these two women who’s shops are immediately next to each other gossip or say, slander someone I didn’t know. They slandered in unison that you might think they are twins.
Within 10 minutes one was buying a take away rubber bag( pack)from the other to package for a buyer. The one buying the rubber was taking it and wanted to pay later that very morning but the other refused to give it to her without paying. According to her that’s her first sale in the morning and if she allowed that first sale without receiving money, she believes that the rest of the day was going to be unlucky.
The rubber pack costs not more than Ghc 10 but out of anger the woman buying the pack took Ghc 200 note to pay for it on hearing her neighbor , that was it, a quarrel has just started between them. ( The receiver of the money felt disrespected because of the huge money the other brought for such a little amount of the rubber ). They were both murmuring and it lasted the whole day.
Indeed they’re like a coat with many colors. I have so much to write on this but for now this is what I’ll share.
Also this article is solely to highlight on how these women easily adjust themselves in the market environment and not for any other intention.
