Mauricio Pochettino has first Chelsea signing 'confirmed' after Todd Boehly makes £52m decision
Mauricio Pochettino, who is expected to be confirmed as Chelsea's new manager, will have a lot of work to do in the upcoming summer transfer window as the Blues look to address their goal-scoring issues. Chelsea's lack of a natural striker has been a persistent problem this season, and adding a quality option in that position is an absolute priority. In addition, the club is also looking to strengthen their central midfield and goalkeeper positions.
Fortunately, Chelsea may have already found a solution to their scoring problems in the form of Christopher Nkunku. The Frenchman is set to complete his move to Chelsea over the summer, with the deal reportedly being finalized towards the end of 2022. Leipzig sporting director Max Eberl has even confirmed Nkunku's impending departure, telling BILD that "the signs are very, very clear that he's moving to Chelsea."
Nkunku has had an impressive season despite being plagued by injuries, managing to score 18 goals from 30 games. His most recent strike, his 13th in the league, came over the weekend in a match against Hoffenheim. Making his first start in nearly two months, Nkunku opened the scoring for Leipzig with a smart close-range finish, ultimately securing a narrow victory for his team and bringing them closer to Champions League qualification.
After the game, Leipzig boss Marco Rose praised Nkunku for his performance and confirmed that the player will be leaving the club at the end of the season. Nkunku's arrival at Chelsea would certainly bolster their attack and provide the much-needed scoring threat that the team has been lacking this season.
Of course, Nkunku's addition to the team is just one piece of the puzzle, and Chelsea will need to continue to make shrewd signings if they hope to compete for top honors next season. Pochettino will have a busy few months ahead of him as he looks to strengthen the squad and implement his tactical vision. But with Nkunku's arrival seemingly all but confirmed, the future is looking bright for Chelsea.
