Premier League title race: Arsenal & Manchester City's remaining fixtures
Manchester City has taken the lead in the Premier League title race once again after a 2-1 win over Fulham. This is the 15th night of the season in which they have occupied the top spot, the last time being on February 17. They need only 15 points from the 18 available to secure a fifth title in six seasons. Arsenal had been at the top for 247 days. Former Everton and Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell told BBC Sport that Manchester City's level is above everybody else, and any team that wants to challenge them will have to get to that level.
Although Fulham made it difficult for City by equalizing after a third-minute penalty, Julian Alvarez's stunning strike gave City their eighth consecutive Premier League win. They now have a point lead over Arsenal, with a game in hand, but Arsenal faces Chelsea on Tuesday night and could return to the top of the table. Blues boss Pep Guardiola said that he had no doubt about the outcome of the game and winning these types of games is really important. He added that the West Ham game on Wednesday, which is a game in hand, is important because after that, City will be at the top of the table, and it will be more real. City's superior goal difference of 54 to Arsenal's 40 also puts them in a better position to secure the title.
City has won 13 of their past 14 games in all competitions, scoring 47 goals and conceding only seven. Only one team has had 69 points with 10 games remaining and failed to win the title, and that was Liverpool in 2018-19, when they finished one point behind City.
Arsenal only has the league to focus on, while City is still in the hunt for the FA Cup and Champions League, and has a packed schedule until the end of the season with as many as 10 games.
City's chances of winning the league, according to data experts Nielsen's Gracenote, have increased to 95%. Their remaining fixtures in May include a Premier League match against West Brom on Tuesday, May 2nd, a match against Leicester City on Sunday, May 7th, and another against Crystal Palace on Saturday, May 20th. They play their last Premier League match on Sunday, May 28th, and have a friendly match scheduled for Saturday, July 22nd. With only a few matches remaining in the season, City is in a strong position to win the title, but they will need to maintain their impressive form to secure the trophy.
