Last summer, Gianluca Scamacca at West Ham, Kalidou Koulibaly at Chelsea and Ivan Perisic at Tottenham were among the most prominent Premier League clubs to come from their Serie A partners.
Not all of this business has gone according to plan, but Serie A could still be an attractive market for English clubs this year.
Here we have selected the 10 best performing players from the 2022-23 Serie A season who could be targeted for a move to the Premier League this summer.
Victor Osimhen (Napoli)
Napoli is undoubtedly the club that will have the most attractive players in their squad after dominating this season. A third Serie A title - and the first outside the Diego Maradona era - is ahead of Napoli. They have fallen in form this season, largely due to the impact of star striker Victor Osimhen.
The Nigeria international is well on his way to finishing the season as Serie A's top scorer. As of the time of this writing, he has 21 goals in 26 league games this season.
His form has alarmed a number of elite clubs across Europe, but the Premier League looks like a place where he will end up. In that regard, Osimhen is expected to provide the solution Man Utd are looking for in the midfield. After all, Erik ten Hag needs a new target next season to replace Wout Weghorst - and how will Osimhen improve.
There have also been links with Chelsea and Arsenal. With his prowess and ability to score goals, Osimhen could be an ideal target for any Premier League team.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Napoli)
While Osimhen has attracted a lot of attention with his scoring record, those who glance at him won't need to direct their attention too far to find another striker making the rounds. in Serie A. Georgian winger Khvicha Kvarateskhelia has caused quite a stir since joining Napoli this summer. He won the Serie A Player of the Month award in August, February and March.
Having doubled in goals and assists in the tournament, Kvaratskhelia has become one of the best-performing players in the world. So Napoli may be prepared to be interested in his services.
TEAMtalk revealed in March that there had been genuine interest in the 22-year-old from Manchester City and Newcastle. Other outlets suggest he could earn money to move to Liverpool or Man Utd.
Napoli may have rushed to improve Kvaratskhelia's contract or else some powerful clubs could pounce.
Kim Minjae (Napoli)
Likewise, Napoli have reaped the rewards of signing Kim Min-jae to strengthen their midfield position for the current season.
Instead of Koulibaly, linked to Chelsea, Kim had a big pair of boots to fill, but then got used to it. The defender dubbed 'The Beast' has become a force to be reckoned with in his debut season in one of Europe's top five leagues. However, there is a release clause in his contract that allows clubs outside of Italy to sign him in the first two weeks of July. Given his form, there could be a flurry of action after that unless Napoli can amend his contract first.
Like Osimhen at the other end of the pitch, Kim was on Man Utd's radar. Links with Man City and Tottenham have also been made recently.
