Arsenal vs. Chelsea provides Jorginho and Mykhaylo Mudryk with the opportunity to make their debuts.
Mykhaylo Mudryk will play Arsenal for the first time since his transfer odyssey concluded, while Jorginho is poised to meet Chelsea after leaving in January.
When Chelsea hijacked Arsenal's projected January move for Mykhaylo Mudryk, there was a sense that the Blues were gaining one of Europe's most promising young players.
Mudryk, 22, scored 10 goals in 18 games for Shakhtar Donetsk in the first half of the season. In the Champions League, he scored against RB Leipzig and Celtic, and he also shined against Real Madrid. Arsenal appeared to be on the verge of signing Mudryk until Chelsea pounced and filed a larger bid to lure the winger to Stamford Bridge instead.
But, four months later, it's safe to say Mudryk hasn't lived up to his price tag, failing to score in 11 Premier League appearances. He has two assists, one of which came in the Blues' most recent win over Leicester on March 11.
However, his performances have been hit or miss, in stark contrast to the player Arsenal signed after missing out on, Belgium international Leandro Trossard. Trossard joined Arsenal for 28 million from Brighton and has since scored one goal and provided eight assists in 14 games, playing an important role in Arsenal's title bid in a number of games.
Mudryk now faces Arsenal on Tuesday night, with the chance to show why there was such a buzz over him back in January - to the point where his signing was celebrated on social media by Chelsea DURING a Premier League match.
When asked about Mudryk on Monday, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard stated, "Every game is an opportunity for young players who have come here, and we also shouldn't take anything for granted."
"Perhaps that is part of the story this year of young players coming in and being expected to make a difference because of the team's performance."
More transfer squabbles erupted between the two clubs at the end of the January transfer window, when Jorginho moved west to north London. After Thomas Partey's injury, the Gunners needed an extra midfielder, and Jorginho was the man Mikel Arteta called in a deal worth around 12 million.
However, after starting four of his first six games for the Gunners, Jorginho has largely been relegated to the bench and has been observing Arsenal's Premier League title bid. In reality, Jorginho has only played 90 minutes of first-team action in the last eight games, with Partey and Granit Xhaka always getting the nod.
